Gophers, Chargers Battle to 1-1 Deadlock

TOWSON, Md. - Two goals 22 seconds apart midway through the first half were the game's only offense as Goucher College and Lancaster Bible College battled to a 1-1, double overtime non-conference men's soccer tie Tuesday night at Beldon Field.
- Goucher (3-5-2) had three shots in the game's first 10 minutes but two were blocked and one was wide.
- Lancaster Bible (6-1-2) put its first shot on frame in the 12th minute but it was stopped by Jeff Castro (Egg Harbor Township, N.J. / Egg Harbor Township).
- The Chargers generated three straight corner kicks in a five-minute span but did not come up with a shot on any of the three.
- At 29:22, LBC's Michael Eufemia scored to put the Chargers ahead 1-0.
- The lead was short-lived, as 22 seconds later, Yaya Diabagate (Hyattsville, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) had a long throw-in from the right side to Drew List (Towson, Md. / Calvert Hall ), who flicked it over to Gus Dalzell (Los Angeles, Calif. / Waverly) who scored to tie things 1-1.
- The Chargers had the only shot over the final 15 minutes, pushing a shot wide with 1:22 left in the period.
- Castro came up with a save of a Lancaster Bible shot attempt in the 49th minute.
- The Gophers were awarded a penalty kick in the 58th minute, but LBC keeper Isaac Barrow guessed right and stopped Bobby Beringer's (Okinawa, Japan / Richard Montgomery) PK.
- With just over 30 minutes left, Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon / UMBC) put a shot on goal that Barrow turned aside.
- Melton stopped two more Charger shots over the final 10-plus minutes to send the game to overtime.
- Chad Tolson put a header on goal in the 95th minute that Melton was able to stop.
- Just over 30 seconds later, Beringer had a bid that Barrow was able to make the save on.
- Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md. / Leonardtown) had a shot on target just at the end of the first OT that Barrow was able to corral.
- Goucher had three of the five shots in the second overtime but neither side found the back of the net.
- Dalzell's goal was his first collegiate tally.
- Goucher held a 20-17 shot advantage on the evening.
- Castro made six saves, while Charger counterpart Barrow turned aside five shots.
- Lancaster Bible held a slight 11-10 advantage in corner kicks.
- Beringer and Jeremiah Odubade (Capital Heights, Md. / Fairmont Heights) each had four shots to pace Goucher in that department.
- Goucher returns to Landmark Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Moravian for a 4 pm contest.
- The Gophers return to Beldon Field on Saturday, October 9, hosting Scranton in Landmark Conference action at 4 pm.
