Scranton Withstands Late Gopher Charge, Holds On For 2-1 Win

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting University of Scranton scored two goals in a span of 2:23 early in the first half and withstood a late rally by host Goucher to post a 2-1 Landmark Conference men's soccer victory Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Scranton (4-3-3, 1-0-2 Landmark) got on the board at the 4:44 mark as Adam Havens scored off a long free kick by Sean Quin.
- The Royals made it 2-0 in the eighth minute as Jake Nubbemeyer scored, with Quin recording another assist.
- Moments later, Goucher's (4-7-2, 1-2 Landmark) Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon / UMBC) pushed a shot wide.
- Jeremiah Odubade (Capital Heights, Md. / Fairmont Heights) forced Scranton goalie Jake Hodlofski to make a save in the 16th minute.
- Jeff Castro (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) made a stop on a bid by Scranton's Andrew Luchansky in the 35th minute.
- Castro made a diving save on a shot by Dylan Estevez just under three minutes into the second half.
- Castro came up with back-to-back saves in the 53rd minute.
- Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) put a shot on goal that Hodlofski turned aside in the 54th minute.
- Goucher cut the lead to 2-1 following a long free kick into the box with just over 15 minutes left.
- Drew List (Towson, Md. / Calvert Hall) headed a ball that had been bouncing around to Adrian Mubiru (Riverdale Park, Md. / International HS at Langley Park), who beat Hodlofski with a header with 15:05 to play.
- In the 78th minute, Aidan Spoor (Milton, Del. / Cape Henlopen) pushed a shot high.
- With just under two minutes to go, Nakhid got behind the Royal defense and put a shot up, but his bid was thwarted by a diving stop by Hodlofski.
- Scranton held a 13-10 shot advantage in the contest, with both teams posting seven shots in the final frame.
- The Royals had eight of the game's nine corner kicks.
- Mubiru's goal was the first collegiate goal for the junior defender.
- Castro made seven saves, while Hodlofski came up with three stops.
- Nakhid had a team-high four shots for the Gophers.
