Van Engeland's Last Second Goal Helps Push Gophers Over Mighty Macs

TOWSON, Md. - First year Paul Van Engeland (Velp, Netherlands) scored with 1:08 remaining to break a 1-1 deadlock and lift Goucher College to a 2-1 men's soccer victory over Immaculata University Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Goucher (4-1-2) put three shots on goal just over one minute into the first half. The attack was lead by Jeremiah Odubade (Captital Heights, MD./Fairmont Heights) and Jonathan Alvarado (Hyatsville, MD./Langley Park) All three shots were turned away by Mighty Mac (3-2-1) keeper Ryan Straub
- Matthew Kirkpatrick had the first opportunity for Immaculata in the 12th minute, firing a shot high over the crossbar
- Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan) led the Gophers in shots for the first half before finding the back of the net in the 24th minute off of a Van Engeland through ball to get the Gophers on the board.
- Immacukata's shots were all but challenging as the Gopher defense managed to prevent any from reaching Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy) in goal
- Goucher once again pushed on the attack early in a half as a headeer from Odubade was saved from Ryan Straub
- The Gophers controlled the ball on their half of the pitch, not allowing Immaculata to clear the ball easily
- Failed clearences by the Macs lead to multiple Gophers getting good looks on goal by Xavier Dever (Hollywood, MD.), Gus Dalzell (Los Angeles, CA.) and Alvarado.
- In the 66th minute, Immaculata tied the game up from a strike from Kirkpatrick
- As the clock was winding down, Van Engeland put a low cross from Dever on cage in transition to break the tie in the 89th minute for his second goal of the season.
- Goucher outshot Immaculata 29-7
- Sternini made a singular save in a quiet day
- Straub made 12 saves for the Mighty Macs.
- Beringer and Alvarado led the Gophers with five shots apiece.
- Goucher took nine of the game's 11 corner kicks.

- Goucher returns to action at home Monday, hosting Rosemont in a 7 pm contest at Beldon Field.
