Gophers Earn Key Three Points Against Susquehanna

TOWSON, Md. - A pair of second half goals lifted the Goucher College men's soccer team to a key 2-0 victory over Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference play Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Goucher's (6-3-3, 1-1-1 Landmark) Bobby Beringer (Okinawa, Japan/Richard Montgomery) tested Susquehanna (0-8-3, 0-2-1) goalie Gerrit Stech with a shot on goal just 1:15 into the game.
- The Gophers kept up the pressure with five shots in the game's first 13 minutes.
- A header by Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) in the 16th minute was saved by Stech.
- Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) pushed a shot high in the 34th minute.
- Goucher outshot Susquehanna 8-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
- Michael Morelli pushed a shot wide for the River Hawks just over five minutes into the second half.
- Stech made a save on a shot by Yaya Diabagate (Hyattsville, Md./International HS at Langley Park) 11 minutes into the period.
- Just over a minute later, Jeremiah Odubade (London, England/Fairmont Heights) was fouled at the top of the box and the Gophers were awarded a penalty kick.
- Nakhid buried the PK, his fifth of the season, and his seventh goal of the campaign, to put Goucher in front 1-0.
- Susquehanna had three shots just past the 60-minute mark, with one going wide and two blocked.
- With just under 20 minutes left, Isaiah Perry (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) played a ball from the left wing that missed River Hawk defenders and snuck through to Andres Aristimuno (Huger, S.C. / Oceanside Collegiate Academy), who put it past Stech for his first collegiate goal.
- Alvarado forced Stech to make another save with just over eight minutes left.
- Goucher outshot Susquehanna 15-6 for the game, while the River Hawks held a 6-5 lead in corner kicks.
- Stech made five saves, while Gopher keeper Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy/Williston Northampton) was not forced to make a save en route to his second shutout of the season.
- Alvarado led Goucher with five shots, while Beringer took three.
- Goucher is unbeaten (4-0-2) in its last six games against Susquehanna.
- Goucher has matched last season's win total.
