Four from Men's Soccer Named CSC Academic All-District
TOWSON, Md. - Four members of the Goucher College men's soccer team have been selected to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Team for 2022. Sophomore Gus Dalzell (Los Angeles, Calif./Waverly), senior Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown), sophomore Will Frasier (Hereford, Md./Hereford) and senior Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) were all recognized.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic AllAmerica® honorees will be announced in early December.
In order to be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with at least one full academic year at their current institution. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or important reserve appearing in at least 50% of a team's contests.
Dalzell, currently undecided on a major, appeared in 15 of 20 games with seven starts for the Gophers this season. Over his first two seasons Dalzell has appeared in 33 contests.
Dever, a Business Management major with an International Relations minor, earned Landmark Conference Second Team All-Conference honors as a midfielder. He was one of three players to start all 20 games for the Gophers and totaled two goals and six assists for 10 points, including the game-winning goal in Goucher's 1-0 win over Neumann in the first round of the ECAC tournament. He is tied for second place in the Landmark Conference with six assists.
Frasier, a Biochemistry major minoring in Public Health, played in all 20 games for Goucher this season and was in the starting lineup 18 times. He totaled a pair of assists and started the final 14 games of the season.
Nakhid, a Psychology major minoring in International Business, started all 20 games for Goucher en route to Landmark First Team All-Conference accolades. A defender, Nakhid totaled 11 goals and a pair of assists for 24 points, finishing tied for second in the conference in goals and fourth in points. Nakhid was just the third Landmark First Team selection for the Gophers since joining the league as a founding member in 2007.
Goucher men's soccer finished 10-4-6, its most victories since 1992, and finished above .500 for the first time since 2014. The Gophers made their first Landmark Conference tournament appearance since 2014 and also made the first-ever ECAC Championship appearance, reaching the quarterfinals.
