Adekanmbi Scores Twice, Gophers Off to Best-Ever Start

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College men's soccer junior forward Michael Adekanmbi scored twice, the second coming with just under 15 minutes left, as the Gophers improved to 5-0 with a 2-1 win over Wilson College Wednesday afternoon at Beldon Field. The Gophers are off to the program's best-ever start.
- Goucher (5-0) had the game's first shot on goal in the 12th minute by Jeremiah Odubade that was saved by Wilson (0-5) keeper Logan Neves.
- In the 22nd minute, the Phoenix were awarded a penalty kick after a player was tripped in the box, but the attempt sailed wide.
- Moments later, a shot by Jace Williams was saved by Gopher keeper Roan Van Woudenberg.
- With just under 19 minutes to go in the first half, Adekanmbi scored his first goal of the game.
- Will Frasier sent a long free kick on a restart into the box, which Adekanmbi headed home to put Goucher in front.
- Goucher held an 8-5 shot advantage as it took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
- Goucher had a pair of corner kicks in the opening minutes of the second half.
- In the 56th minute Paul Van Engeland put a shot on goal that was stopped by Neves.
- Wilson tied the game 1-1 in the 67th minute as Brian Mullholland scored, with Eric Arbogast assisting.
- With just under 15 minutes left, Adekanmbi one-timed a right-to-left corner kick that was knocked away, then Yaya Diabagate headed the loose ball over to Adekanmbi whose second header goal of the afternoon put Goucher back in front.
- Dylan Youmans put a shot on frame with five minutes left that was saved by Van Woudenberg.
- Goucher outshot Wilson 16-3 in the second half and 24-8 for the game.
