WASHINGTON, D.C. - Host Catholic University scored three times in the first 11:43 of the game en route to a 6-1 Landmark Conference men's soccer victory over Goucher College at Carlini Field Tuesday evening.
- Catholic (8-5-2, 5-0-2 Landmark) got on the board just 1:20 into the game on a Ben Zimmer tally.
- Just 78 seconds later, Gordie Bernlohr scored to make it 2-0.
- In the 12th minute, Domenico Caltabiano made it 3-0 on his goal assisted by Ryan Kelly.
- Goucher (7-5-2, 2-4-1) goalie Ale Sternini made his first save of the game in the 16th minute.
- With 13:28 left in the first half, Tre Byrd scored his first collegiate goal to get the Gophers on the board.
- Michael Adekanmbi made a move around a Cardinal defender and skipped a ball from right to left through the box that Byrd connected with inside the far left post.
- Moments later Bobby Beringer put a shot on goal that was stopped by Catholic keeper Owen Allegro.
- Will Frasier had a shot 10 minutes into the second half that sailed high.
- Catholic was awarded a penalty kick with just over 20 minutes to play that Kelly converted to make it 4-1.
- Sternini made a save on a low shot in the 76th minute.
- Peter Schmidt scored with 12:18 left to put Catholic on top 5-1.
- The Cardinals made it 6-1 on a Schmidt goal with 10 seconds remaining.
- Catholic, which extended its Landmark regular season unbeaten streak to 19, outshot Goucher 27-5.
- Sternini made seven saves, while Allegro made one save before being relieved in the 78th minute.
- The Cardinals also took seven corner kicks to Goucher's three.
- Goucher plays its final home game of the regular season and hosts Elizabethtown for Senior Day on Saturday at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
