Gophers to Face Penn State Behrend in ECAC Semis at Alvernia
DANBURY, Conn. - The sixth-seeded Goucher College men's soccer team will face No. 2 seed Penn State Behrend in an ECAC Division III Men's Soccer Championship on Saturday, November 18 at Alvernia University. The top-seeded Golden Wolves will host Saturday's semifinal round as well as Sunday's championship match, with game times to be announced.
Goucher advanced into this weekend's semifinals after it battled third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan to a 2-2 tie and prevailed 5-3 in penalty kicks. The Gophers are making their first-ever ECAC semifinal appearance.
Penn State Behrend, the tournament's No. 2 seed, edged seventh-seeded Franciscan 1-0 on Sunday. The Lions enter the weekend 12-4-3 overall and reached the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament. Goucher and Penn State Behrend are meeting for the first time in men's soccer.
Saturday's second semifinal features Alvernia, a 4-0 winner over Saint Elizabeth in the quarterfinals, and No. 4 seed FDU-Florham. The Devils tied New Jersey City 3-3 before advancing on penalty kicks.
