Landmark Reveals 2009 Spring All-Academic Team

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference today announced the names of the 32 student-athletes who make up the 2009 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team, which recognizes two male and two female athletes who have excelled athletically and academically from each of the eight Landmark institutions.

Gophers Top Mariners for 2-0 Landmark Weekend

TOWSON, Md. – One day after picking up its first Landmark Conference victory of the season, Goucher earned No. 2 by winning two of the three doubles matches and then going 5-1 in singles play to register a 7-2 triumph over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Brooks, Baum Lead Gophers Past Crusaders, 5-4

TOWSON, Md. – Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter) and Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) were partners in a win at first doubles and both players were also victorious in singles play today as Goucher picked up its first Landmark Conference victory of the season, a 5-4 triumph over visiting Susquehanna.

Greyhounds Thrash Gophers, Take Over First Place

TOWSON, Md. – The prospects of Goucher knocking off Moravian this afternoon plummeted when the Greyhounds swept the three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The Gophers fared no better in singles play and wound up suffering a 9-0 loss to the team that took over sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference with the win.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Goucher's best chances against Juniata today were at first and third doubles and No. 3 singles, but the Gophers came up short in all three of those matches and wound up suffering a 9-0 Landmark Conference loss to the Eagles (7-5, 1-2 Landmark).

Gophers Get Charge Out of First 2008-09 Triumph

TOWSON, Md. – On the same day that sophomore Francisco Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Wheaton) registered the first singles victory of his collegiate career, Goucher broke into the win column for the first time during the 2008-09 season. The Gophers dropped only three games during the doubles competition and were were able to dominate singles play as well as they coasted past Lancaster Bible, 9-0, today.

Bullets Prolong Skid by Gophers to Open Season

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Francisco Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Wheaton) appeared at first singles for Goucher for the first time in 2008-09 and put up a worthy battle against Gettysburg's Dale Beshore today. Beshore eventually put Barrera away, and the Bullets did the same to head coach Michael Vann's Gophers, downing them 9-0 and extending their season-long losing streak to five matches.

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher was down to Neumann only 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play this afternoon, but then the Knights (7-1) pulled off a clean sweep of the six singles matches to earn an 8-1 triumph over head coach Michael Vann's Gophers.
