HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Goucher's best chances against Juniata
today were at first and third doubles and No. 3 singles, but the
Gophers came up short in all three of those matches and wound up
suffering a 9-0 Landmark Conference loss to the Eagles (7-5, 1-2
Landmark).
The most competitive of the nine matches appeared to be at first doubles where Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter) and Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) were stationed for the Gophers (1-7, 0-2 Landmark). They gave Juniata's Jarrad Silver and Arnab Chakrabarti all they could handle to the very end, but went down 9-8 (5).
Jeff McLeod (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Francisco Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Wheaton) gave Ryan Navarro and Casey Chew of the Eagles a good run as well at No. 3, but Navarro and Chew came out on top, 8-6.
Baum, competing at third singles, was the only Goucher player to win a set during singles play. He captured the second set, but Navarro was able to pull out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory.
At No. 1 singles, Juniata's Jonathan Skoner defeated Barrera 6-2, 6-2.
