TOWSON, Md. – Goucher's Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) was involved in tight matches in both singles and doubles play during the Gophers' 9-0 Landmark Conference loss today to Catholic.
Weiss was partnered with Jeff McLeod (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) at No. 2 doubles and stationed at No. 3 in the Gophers' singles line-up. In doubles, Weiss and McLeod overcame a 5-2 deficit to Connor Donnelly and Michael Reaney only to suffer a 9-8 setback when they were beaten 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
Weiss dropped the first set of his match against Matthew Netardus at third singles and won the second before Netardus prevailed in a super-tiebreaker to complete his 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (8) triumph.
The Cardinals (5-9, 1-4 Landmark) won the remaining five singles matches in straight sets. The Gophers (1-9, 0-4 Landmark) are 10-57 in singles matches in 2008-09.
