SCRANTON, Pa. – Goucher will get two more chances to
register a Landmark Conference victory in 2008-09 after one got
away today when the Gophers were handed a 9-0 loss by Scranton.
At No. 1 doubles, Scott Melideo and Matt Kaplan of the Royals pinned an 8-2 setback on Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Francisco Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Wheaton).
The Royals (9-3, 5-0 Landmark) won all six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Melideo topped Barrera 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 2, Carl Caceres recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney).
Among the six matches remaining on Goucher's 2008-09 schedule, two of them are against Landmark Conference opponents: the Gophers (1-10, 0-5) are scheduled to take on Susquehanna on April 25 and Merchant Marine the following day.
