Landmark Reveals 2009 Spring All-Academic Team

Goucher's Boucher Among Seven to Repeat from 2008 List

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference today announced the names of the 32 student-athletes who make up the 2009 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team, which recognizes two male and two female athletes who have excelled athletically and academically from each of the eight Landmark institutions.

Goucher's four representatives on the second annual Spring Landmark All-Academic Team are Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont), a four-year letterwinner on the women's tennis team, Alex Boucher (North Wales, Pa./Germantown Academy), who graduated in May after playing lacrosse for four years, Colleen Cole (Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hebron School), a rising junior on the women's lacrosse team, and Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney), a two-time letterwinner on the men's tennis team.

Each school selected its four nominees, all of whom had to compete in any of the eight sports for which the Landmark Conference conducts a championship in the spring. In addition, the nominees had to be a sophomore, junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Attarha compiled a 13-7 record in singles play in 2008-09, helping the Gophers advance to the championship match of the Landmark Conference postseason tournament. A psychology major, she graduated in May with a 3.85 GPA.

Boucher attained a perfect 4.0 GPA in six of the eight semesters he attended Goucher. Among his other academic honors: elected to the Beta chapter of the Maryland Phi Beta Kappa honor society, won the Max Hoschild Prize for Excellence in Economics, which is awarded to the top economics major, and received the Ruth Baird Thompson Class of '31 Award for academic excellence and sportsmanship. He earned second-team All-Landmark Conference honors as a specialist in 2008 when he ran as a defensive midfielder on the second unit when the Gophers ranked third in Division III in scoring defense, plus this season he scored 13 goals and was credited with three assists.

Cole was a first-team midfielder on the 2009 All-Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Team, a reward for her 35-goal, 20-assist performance as a sophomore. She maintains a 3.59 cumulative GPA, but has yet to select a major.

Weiss is a communications major with a 3.91 GPA who was the co-leader in singles wins on the men's tennis team in 2008-09.
