TOWSON, Md. – Goucher's Jeff McLeod (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) earned his way out of the quarterfinals in his flight at the Landmark Conference Invitational, which was conducted this weekend.
McLeod, competing in the fourth singles flight, opened with a 7-5, 0-6, 6-0 victory over Susquehanna's Grant Uber to earn a spot in the semifinals where he was knocked out of the tournament by Drew's Matt Brisotti. Brisotti defeated McLeod 6-0, 6-0 and then went on to top Moravian's Chandler Forman in the championship match 6-2, 6-1.
Goucher's other five entrants in singles play were all taken out in the quarterfinals: Francisco Barrera (Wheaton, Md./Wheaton) lost to Jonathan Skoner from Juniata 6-0, 6-2 in Flight I, Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) suffered a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 setback to Juniata's Jarrad Silver in Flight II, Scranton's Matt Kaplan was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) in Flight III, Alex Vogel (New York, N.Y./The American School in Switzerland) lost to Susquehanna's Cory Prescott 6-2, 6-2 in Flight V and Keven Kirschman (New Orleans, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) fell to Scranton's Dan Parisi 6-0, 6-0 in Flight VI.
In the doubles competition, Baum and Vogel represented Goucher in Flight I and opened with an 8-6 triumph over William Mellor and Alec Green from Susquehanna. In the semifinals, however, Baum and Vogel were handed an 8-3 setback by Jeff Marshall and Alex Belfiore from Drew.
In the second doubles flight, McLeod and Weiss lost to Moravian's Kevin Holze and Drew Shreter in the quarterfinals, 8-3; in the third doubles flight, Barerra and Kirschman fell to Juniata's Tucker Good and Andrew Hoffman in the quarterfinals, 8-6.
