The Gophers (1-8, 0-2 Landmark) made certain they got their opponents' attention in doubles play. At No. 1, Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) gave Matt Brisotti and Alex Belfiore a run for their money, falling 8-4; the match at No. 2 doubles between Drew's Matt Imbo and Victor Kolarov and Goucher's Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) and Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter) wound up 8-3.
Weiss won five games in his match at fourth singles, but lost 6-2, 6-3 to Imbo. Baum was beaten at No. 2 by Belfiore 6-2, 6-2; Francisco Barrera (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) suffered a 6-0, 6-4 setback to Elliot Smego at No. 3.
The Rangers (3-5, 2-0 Landmark) are 16-0 all-time in Landmark Conference regular-season matches.
