Gophers Pin Convincing 9-0 Setback on Chargers
TOWSON, Md. Brett Blackman (Philadelphia, Pa./J.R. Masterman) and Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep) both picked up their first wins in singles play of the 2009-10 season today as Goucher was cruising to a convincing 9-0 triumph over Lancaster Bible.
Blackman, Manfield Record Initial 2009-10 Singles Victories

Masterman) and Seth Manfield (Bethesda,
Md./Emerson Prep) both picked up their first wins in
singles play of the 2009-10 season today as Goucher was cruising to
a convincing 9-0 triumph over Lancaster Bible.
Blackman, competing for the Gophers (3-10) at No. 5, recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lancaster Bible's Brendan Arey, while Manfield was a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (6) winner over Josh Formanek at No. 6.
Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) was at No. 1 singles for the first time all season today and he responded by taking down Philip Smock 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) defeated Brandon Klinger 6-0, 6-0.
The Gophers went 3-0 in doubles play for the first time in 2009-10, allowing the Chargers (0-10) to win only two games in the three matches. At. No. 1, Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, N.Y./Solomon Schechter) and Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) conquered Smock and Formanek, 8-0; at No. 2 Baum and Leonard prevailed over Klingere and Dan McAllister, 8-1.
