Green Terror, Darkness Team Up Against Gophers

Adair Goes to Third Set Before Match Becomes Final

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Goucher's fate against McDaniel today had already been settled before darkness prevented the No. 6 singles match from being completed. After sweeping the doubles matches, the Green Terror (5-2) had tacked on five more wins in singles play to emerge with an 8-0 victory over head coach Michael Vann's Gophers.

The most competitive of the three doubles matches was at No. 1 where Steve French and Chad Palman held off David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) and Nick Pelensky (Billings, Mont./Billings), 8-5. The Gophers (0-10) were able to win only two games in the remaining two doubles matches.

Spivey met up with French once again at first singles and suffered a 7-5, 6-2 setback. Pelensky, who represented Goucher at No. 2, dropped a 6-0, 6-0 verdict to Brian Kron.

Seth McFall was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster Academy) at No. 3, Palman defeated Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) 6-1, 7-6 (1) at No. 4 and Matthew Langsdale turned back Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep) 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.

Thomas Adair (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) was the only Goucher player to win a set during singles play as he opened up with a 6-3 win in the first set at No. 6, but Bennett Daniels evened the match by taking the second set by an identical score of 6-3. The two were in a third-set tiebreaker when play was stopped.
