Bullets Display Too Much Firepower, Defeat Gophers

Csete Fades After 6-4 Win in Opening Set at No. 4 Singles
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher managed to win only two games during the doubles competition and dropped five of the six singles matches in straight sets while suffering a 9-0 setback to Gettysburg this afternoon.
The only player for Goucher who was able to win a set during singles play was Daniel Csete (Miami, Fla./Brewster Academy), who was pitted against Sebastian Rodriguez of the Bullets at No. 4. Csete came out on top in the opening set, but wasn't able to win a game in the second set or a point in the match-breaker as Rodriguez recorded a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (0) victory.
At No. 1, Gettysburg's Chris Curran defeated David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) 6-1, 6-1; at No. 2, Mike McLaughlin topped Nick Pelensky (Billings, Mont./Billings) 6-0, 6-0.
Spivey and Pelensky were partnered at No. 1 doubles for the Gophers (2-19) and they bowed to Curran and Terry Keegan, 8-1. The Bullets (7-8) picked up an 8-0 win by McLaughlin and Johnny Nelson over Csete and Brett Blackman (Philadelphia, Pa./J.R. Masterman) at No. 2 and an 8-1 triumph by Rodriguez and Chris Conrad over Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep) and Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) at No. 3.
