Gophers Pluck Win at Doubles, Another at Singles

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Goucher plucked one win out of the doubles competition and another from the six singles matches, but still couldn't avoid a 7-2 loss to Moravian in the final match of the season for head coach Michael Vann's squad.
The Greyhounds, who had already clinched a berth in the upcoming Landmark Conference postseason tournament, led 2-1 at the conclusion of the three doubles matches. The Gophers (2-20, 0-7 Landmark) secured their point at No. 3 where Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep) and Thomas Adair (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) recorded a 9-7 victory over David Chan and Brad Kutcha.
Brett Blackman (Philadelphia, Pa./J.R. Masterman) prevented Moravian from pulling off a sweep of the six singles matches as he polished off Chan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
At No. 1 singles, Moravian's Kevin Holze came out on top of David Spivey (Cockeysville, Md./The Park School) 6-0, 6-0.
The only singles match that went past two sets was between Drew Shreter and Nick Pelensky (Billings, Mont./Billings) at No. 3. Shreter earned the point for the Greyhounds (8-4, 4-3 Landmark) with a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (1) triumph.
