Warriors Pin 6-3 Season-Opening Setback on Gophers

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The lower half of Goucher's singles lineup came through, but produced the only points for the Gophers today in a season-opening 6-3 loss to Lycoming.
The Warriors (1-0) captured all three doubles matches and added three victories in singles play. The most competitive of the doubles matches was No. 3 where Chris Connolly and David Belson recorded a 9-7 win over Pat Murnin (Salt Lake City, Utah/East) and John Bescoby (San Marino, Calif./Maranatha).
Bescoby came back at No. 5 singles to knock off Belson 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6).
Woody Black (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mountain) and Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep) picked up the other two singles wins for the Gophers (0-1). Black, competing at No. 4, polished off Connolly 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-3) and Manfield defeated Jordan Dubinsky 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
At No. 1, Jason Mifsud registered a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Austin Prince (Oakland, Calif./Oakland Technical).
