The only singles match that wen past two sets was No. 1 where Joey Caracappa (Smithtown, N.Y./Saddlebrook Preparatory School) battled back from being down a set to knock off Shenandoah's Steven Baker 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8). Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School) disposed of Jesse Ewing 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Kelly Sykes at No. 3.
Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) went at No. 4 for the Gophers (4-1) and responded with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 triumph over Bryan Harris. Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok) topped Morgan Keeler 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, raising his record in singles play this season to 4-0.
The Hornets (1-3) were forced to default at No. 6.
Goucher allowed only three games to get away during the doubles competition: at No. 1, Caracappa and Hoesman recorded an 8-1 win over Baker and Ewing, at No. 2, Fujitani and Hodges turned back Sykes and Harris, 8-2, and at No. 3, Diehl and Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) secured an 8-0 victory over Keeler and Kyler Apgar.
Next up for head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad is a match against St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Bel Air, Md.
