HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) earned his seventh win of the season and Goucher's only point in its first match of the Spring Break training trip as the team fell to Georgetown (Ky.), 8-1.
Hoesman's victory at No. 2 singles didn't come easy as a tiebreaker was involved in each set. He lost the first set 6-7 (4-7) but battled back against Tristan Nosek with a 7-6 (7-4) win in the second. Hoesman produced the 1-0 (11-9) triumph in the super-tiebreaker to take the match.
The Gophers (6-2) struggled for the rest of the afternoon as Ryo Takeda defeated Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School) at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-4) and Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) fell to Austin Colliver (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 3 spot.
Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok), Josh Goldberg (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County), and Chad Resnik (Miami, Fla./Pinecrest School) all fell in straight sets to Georgetown as well.
The Tigers (3-7) swept doubles play, marking the second time all season that Brendan Kincaid's squad fell to a 3-0 defeat.
Due to the opponents swap, Goucher will now play Baker College tomorrow at 8 a.m.
