HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Goucher was down only 2-1 at the conclusion of the doubles competition, but was able to add only one win in singles play and came up short against Baker, 7-2, today.
- The duo of Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan/International School Bangkok) and Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School) accounted for the point the Gophers (6-3) earned in doubles with an 8-5 win over Thomas Irick and Conner Petty at No. 2.
- Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) extended his winning streak in singles play to five matches by downing Baker's Blake Barnard at No. 2. The senior dropped the first set, but rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7) victory to improve to 8-1 this season in singles competition.
- The No. 1 singles match pitted Hodges against Spartak Rahachou, who recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win.
- The Wildcats (no record available) are only the third team this season to own the lead against head coach Brendan Kincaid's squad at the start of singles play. Still, Goucher's record in doubles match is still 19-9 (.704).
Goucher will play the final match of its Spring Break training trip before heading home against St. Thomas (Minn.) at 3 p.m. Friday.
