Men’s Tennis Takes Two from Harford C.C., St. Mary’s in Spring Home Opener
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men’s tennis team opened their home slate for the spring portion of their 2017-18 season in style on Saturday, as the Gophers took down both Harford Community College and St. Mary’s (Md.), both by 8-1 scores.

With the pair of victories, Goucher moved to 10-2 overall for the year.
Goucher 8, Harford Community College 1 | Results
First, against Harford Community College (who is ranked 12th in the NJCAA National Polls), the Gophers got off to a fast start with a sweep of doubles action.
In the top spot, first-year Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.) and senior Jack Hodges (London, England) posted an 8-4 win, which was followed up by an 8-5 victory by sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) and junior Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J.) at number three.
In the second spot of doubles, the team of junior Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) and sophomore Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.) put Goucher up 3-0 in the match with a hard-fought 8-7 (10-4) victory.
It was more of the same in singles, as Ota (6-1, 6-0 at number one), Hodges (6-1, 6-3 at number two), Mullinix (6-2, 6-1 at number three), Dumas (6-0, 6-0 at number four) and Diehl (6-1, 6-0 at number five) were all straight set victors in their respective spots in the line-up.

Against St. Mary's, the team of Ota and Hodges once again got Goucher off to a good start, as they posted an 8-3 win in the top spot in the doubles line-up. Meekins and Dumas went on to roll to an 8-2 win at number two doubles, putting Goucher up, 2-0, in the match.
After St. Mary's came back with a point with a win at number three doubles, Goucher rolled the rest of the afternoon, sweeping six singles matches.
Hodges played in the number one spot in the St. Mary's match and delivered a 6-4, 6-4 win. Dumas (6-0, 6-2) and Diehl (6-4, 6-4) rolled to victories at numbers two and three in singles, respectively, while at number four, senior Josh Goldberg (Centreville, Md.) came back to notch a three-set win (0-6, 6-1, 10-2).
In the final two spots of the singles lineup, senior Britton Shortle (Winter Park, Fla.) was a straight-set winner (6-0, 6-3), then at number six, first-year Daniel Kim (Arlington, Mass.) finished off the clean sweep of singles for Goucher with an 8-1 victory
The Goucher College men's tennis team returns to action next Saturday, traveling to Ursinus. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
