For the third consecutive week, a member of the Goucher College men's tennis team was named the Landmark Conference's Athlete of the Week on Monday, as sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) earned this week's honor for the period ending March 11th.
Dumas, who earns Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in his career, joins first-year Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.) and senior Jack Hodges (London, England) as Gophers who have already earned Athlete of the Week honors from the Landmark over the last few weeks.
On Saturday, Dumas helped the Gophers collect a pair of dominating wins over Harford Community College and St. Mary's, as Goucher collected two 8-1 victories to push their record on the year to 10-2 overall.
First, against Harford C.C., Dumas was a two-time winner, helping Goucher take a win over the Owls, who are ranked 12th in the NJCAA National Poll. In doubles, Dumas teamed up with junior Josiah Meekins (Trenton, N.J.) to take an 8-5 win at number three, which Dumas followed up with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 win at number three singles.
In the St. Mary's match, it was more of the same from Dumas, as he and Meekins grabbed an 8-2 win at number two doubles, then he collected a 6-0, 6-2 win at number two singles.
For the year, Dumas has been terrific in singles action for the Gophers, posting an 11-2 overall mark. In doubles, Dumas is a combined 9-4 on the year, as he and Meekins are a perfect 4-0 as a tandem so far in 2017-18.
The Goucher College men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Ursinus. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
