Gophers Edged by Rangers in Battle of Conference Unbeatens

MADISON, N.J. - Host Drew University jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles and split six singles matches with Goucher College as the Rangers prevailed 5-4 in a battle of the two remaining unbeaten men's tennis teams in the Landmark Conference Saturday afternoon at the Drew Tennis Complex.
- Goucher (8-7, 5-1 Landmark) was victorious at No. 2 doubles as Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) and Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) used a tiebreaker for a 8-7 (7-2) win.
- Drew (15-3, 6-0) won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
- Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) and Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) fell 8-2 at No. 1.
- Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Joshua Noel (Ennis, Texas/Ennis) dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 3.
- Adebamgbe was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles.
- Nguyen and Beam won at No. 5 and 6, as Nguyen won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5, while Beam was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 6.
- At No. 3 Cerpa dropped the first set 7-5 before falling 7-5, 6-2.
- Kane fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 while Noel was bested 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.
- Nguyen extended his singles winning streak to nine matches, while he and Beam have won three straight in doubles action.
- Drew locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championship with the win.
- Goucher stays on the road Sunday, heading to Scranton for a 1 pm Landmark Conference match.
