Gophers Bounce Back With 8-1 Win at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Goucher College men's tennis team bounced back from its first Landmark Conference loss of the season with an 8-1 win over the University of Scranton on Sunday.
- Goucher (9-7, 5-1 Landmark) swept doubles to jump out to a 3-0 lead over Scranton (3-10, 2-2).
- Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) and Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) got the match started with an 8-1 win at No. 2.
- Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) and Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) prevailed 8-3 at No. 1.
- Joshua Noel (Ennis, Texas/Ennis) and Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) were also 8-3 winners at No. 3.
- Adebamgbe was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2, while Cerpa won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.
- Noel dispatched his opponent 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, with Nguyen winning 6-0, 7-5 at No. 5.
- Ryan Wartenberg (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) was a 6-2, 6-3 victor at No. 6.
- Nguyen has now won 10 straight singles matches, while he and Beam have won four straight in doubles.
- The Gophers avenged a 5-4 loss to the Royals in last season's Landmark Conference semifinals.
- Goucher wraps up the regular season Saturday when it travels to Susquehanna for a 1 pm Landmark Conference match.
- The Gophers can clinch the No. 2 seed in the Landmark Conference championship with a win against the River Hawks on Saturday.
