Gophers Punch Ticket to Landmark Title Match, Blank Susquehanna

TOWSON, Md. - The second-seeded Goucher College men's tennis team punched its ticket to its sixth Landmark Conference championship match in seven seasons with a 5-0 semifinal victory over No. 3 seed Susquehanna Wednesday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- Goucher (11-7) dropped just four sets in a doubles session that was halted in the middle for a brief rain shower.
- Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) and Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) posted an 8-0 sweep of Susquehanna (10-5) at No. 2.
- Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) and Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) recorded an 8-2 triumph at No. 1.
- At No. 3, Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Joshua Noel (Ennis, Texas/Ennis) also won by an 8-2 score.
- Kane picked up the first doubles point for the Gophers with his 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1.
- Cerpa clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 3.
- Goucher had taken the first set in the other four singles matches and led in three of the four second sets at the time of completion.
- Goucher will be making its sixth appearance in seven years in the Landmark Conference title match. The Gophers made five straight appearances from 2015-19, winning four straight titles from 2016-19.
- Goucher fell in the semifinals last season and the tournament was not held in 2020.
- The Gophers have won eight of their last 10 matches.
- Beam and Nguyen have won six straight doubles tilts.
- Goucher will face the winner of Thursday's other semifinal between top-seeded Drew and No. 4 seed Scranton. That match will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 7.
