Gophers Blank LVC, Advance to NCAA Second Round

PIKESVILLE, Md. - Goucher College swept all three doubles matches en route to a 5-0 win over Lebanon Valley College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship Friday afternoon at Coppermine Pikesville. The match was hosted by regional host Johns Hopkins University.
- Goucher (13-7) picked up two quick doubles points as Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Joshua Noel (Ennis, Texas/Ennis) were 8-0 winners at No. 3 doubles over Lebanon Valley (16-7).
- At No. 2 Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) and Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) prevailed 8-1.
- Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) and Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadephia, Pa./Lower Merion) battled before taking an 8-6 win at No. 1.
- With three courts in play indoors, Adebamgbe moved the Gophers within one point of advancement with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
- At No. 1, Kane dropped a 7-4 tiebreaker in the first set before winning 6-4 in the second.
- Cerpa also dropped a first-set tiebreak before forcing a third set with a 6-1 win.
- After Adebamgbe's match completed, Noel quickly dispatched his opponent at No. 4 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match.
- Kane and his opponent were tied 4-4 in the third, while Cerpa led 5-2 at the time of completion.
- Goucher won its opener for the fourth time in its five trips to the NCAAs.
- Beam and Nguyen won their eighth straight doubles matchup, while Cerpa and Noel extended their doubles win streak to five.
- Adebamgbe won his fifth straight singles match.
- Goucher advances to the second round Saturday and will face No. 3 nationally Tufts on Saturday at 1 pm. That match will take place indoors at the Navy Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.
