Gophers Wrap Up at Loyola Invitational
BALTIMORE - The Goucher College men's tennis team competed at the Loyola University of Maryland Men's Tennis Invitational Friday through Sunday at the McClure Tennis Center at Ridley Athletic Complex. The event also featured the host Greyhounds, Mount Saint Mary's (Md.) and Harford Community College.
Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) posted a 2-1 win over Loyola in Friday's opening round in an event that featured a "points of the compass" format to guarantee each team four matches. The pair won their doubles match 6-1 then Nguyen prevailed in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (5), (10-7).
Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) won his singles match in the opening round against his Greyhound opponent 2-6, 6-4, (14-12). Beam also defeated another Loyola opponent on Sunday. He was leading 7-6(6), 4-1 when his opponent retired.
In an all-Goucher matchup, Beam and Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) prevailed 6-4 over Theo Lucke (Ahlen, Germany / Städtisches Gymnasium Ahlen) and Alex Dominguez (Healdsburg, Calif. / Healdsburg).
Goucher wraps up its fall season next weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
