SALISBURY, Md. - Buoyed by a sweep in doubles, Virginia Wesleyan downed Goucher 6-3 in non-conference men's tennis Saturday afternoon at Salisbury University's Tennis Center.


  • The Marlins (1-3) won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by 8-3 scores.
  • At No 3 doubles, Goucher's (0-2) Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) and Theo Lucke (Ahlen, Germany / Städtisches Gymnasium Ahlen) battled before dropping an 8-5 decision.


  • Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 11-9 victory at No. 3 singles.
  • Naftoly recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4, while at No. 5, Tadeo Asprella (La Plata, Argentina / Instituto Jose Manuel Estrada) downed his opponent 6-0, 6-4.
