Gophers Close Out Home Slate With 8-1 Win

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season home schedule with an 8-1 win over Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference men's tennis Sunday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- Goucher (6-8, 4-1 Landmark) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles.
- Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) and Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) were 8-2 winners at No. 1.
- Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Tadeo Asprella (La Plata, Argentina / Instituto Jose Manuel Estrada) picked up an 8-4 win at No. 2.
- Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) and Theo Lucke (Ahlen, Germany / Städtisches Gymnasium Ahlen) closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-5 triumph at No. 3.
- Naftoly downed his opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 to make it 4-0.
- Nguyen clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2.
- Cerpa (No. 1), Beam (No. 3) and Asprella (No. 4) all won in straight sets in their respective singles contests.
- Asprella has won seven straight singles matches and is 9-1 in his last 10.
- Naftoly won his second in a row and is 7-3 in his last 10.
- Asprella and Cerpa also moved their doubles win streak to six.
- Goucher has won 12 straight against the River Hawks.
- Goucher travels to Haverford on Thursday for a 4:30 non-conference match before closing the regular season at Juniata on Saturday.
- The Gophers are locked into the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championship and will host a semifinal on Tuesday, April 25.
