Gophers Slotted Second in Landmark Men's Tennis Poll
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's tennis team was selected second in the Landmark Conference preseason coaches' poll released Friday afternoon. The Gophers collected 73 points and one first place vote to sit second behind defending conference champion Drew University, which garnered nine of the 10 first place votes and 81 points.
Catholic University (59), Moravian University (54) and the University of Scranton (50) round out the top five.
Goucher returns four Landmark All-Conference players from last season.
Angel Cerpa earned First Team All-Conference singles honors, while Jackson Beam and Calis Nguyen were selected First Team doubles in 2022-23. Beam and Nguyen each earned Second Team accolades in singles, while Cerpa and Tadeo Asprella were named to the Second Team in doubles.
Since 2016, Goucher has captured five Landmark titles, with the most recent coming in 2022. The Gophers have made a total of seven conference finals appearances in the last eight seasons dating back to 2015.
Goucher opens the spring portion of its schedule Saturday, February 17, traveling to Christopher Newport for a 3 pm match. The Gophers' home opener is set for Wednesday, February 28 against Kutztown and St. Mary's (Md.), while their Landmark spring opener is Saturday, March 23 at Wilkes.
