Gophers Post Impressive Win over Juniata

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's tennis team earned an impressive 8-1 victory over Juniata College Saturday afternoon at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- The Gophers (10-8, 7-0 Landmark) swept doubles from the Eagles (9-5, 4-3).
- Unai Laguardia Alvarez and Tadeo Asprella were 8-1 winners at No. 3, while at No. 2, Angel Cerpa and Benedikt Rummel also posted an 8-1 victory.
- Gabe Naftoly and Calis Nguyen were 8-4 victors at No. 1.
- The Gophers dropped just four games in winning flights 4-6.
- Cerpa was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 4, while Nguyen posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5.
- Rummel kept up his strong play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
- Asprella recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3.
- Naftoly outlasted his opponent at No. 2 6-4, 6-3.
- At No. 1, Laguardia Alvarez fell 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in the longest match of the afternoon.
- Goucher has won three in a row and six of its last seven.
- Rummel has posted nine straight singles wins and is 12-2 on the season, while Naftoly and Nguyen each won their third straight.
- Cerpa won the 47th doubles match of his career, moving him into a tie for seventh in program history with Midori Fujitani (2014-17) and Omosesan Adebamgbe (2018-22).
- Laguardia Alvarez and Asprella won their fourth in a row in doubles play.
- Goucher closes out its regular season home slate Sunday when it hosts Moravian at 1 pm at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- The Greyhounds are one of two-one loss teams in the Landmark standings along with Drew, whom it lost to on Tuesday.
- Prior to the match the Gophers will honor lone senior Cerpa.
