TOWSON, Md. — Women’s swimmer Nicole Craver, who has picked up five individual victories in Goucher’s last two meets, and men’s basketball forward Julian Livingston, who continues to lead his team in scoring, have been selected as the school’s most recent Gophers of the Month.
TOWSON, Md. — Women’s swimmer Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area), who has picked up five individual victories in Goucher’s last two meets, and men’s basketball forward Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md./Fairmont Heights), who continues to lead his team in scoring, have been selected as the school’s most recent Gophers of the Month.
Selections for the award were made by the Goucher sports information staff, in consultation with other athletic administrators. Considering the shortage of athletic events over the winter break, achievements from both December and January were taken into account when determining this month’s award winners.
Craver has led her team throughout this season. At the Yellow Jacket Invitational back in December, a two-day meet which featured 13 different schools, she picked up points in all three of her individual races, highlighted by a third place result in the 200-yard individual medley which was Goucher’s highest finish over the weekend.
The junior continued her strong performance in January during a pair of conference meets. Craver won five of the six individual races she competed in, going a perfect 3 for 3 at Marywood on Jan. 18. One of those victories came in the 500 freestyle. Swimming in the event for the first time at Goucher, she became only the ninth Gopher in program history to register a time under 5:40, touching in at 5:37.16 and finishing the race over 20 seconds faster than her next-closest competitor.
Livingston has been Goucher’s top offensive threat since the season began, and he has continued to be a consistent menace to other teams in recent weeks. He averaged a team-high 15.3 points per game across 14 contests in December and January, scoring over 20 points in five of those games. Livingston’s top performances came in victories over UMass Dartmouth and Eastern Mennonite. He poured in 25 points in each tilt while hitting nearly 55 percent of his shots from the field.
The sophomore forward also led the team in 3-pointers and blocks over the past two months, and he was second on the squad at 4.9 rebounds per game. For the season overall, Livingston is averaging 16.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, and he has also made over 40 percent of his shots from 3-point range.
Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) from women’s indoor track & field, Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie) from women’s basketball, Alex Noble (Clinton, Md./Surrattsville) from men’s basketball and Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) from men’s swimming were also considered for this month’s award. The next Gopher of the Month selections will be made at the end of February.
