She holds Top-10 times in the 500 free (5:21.45, 2010), 1000 free (11:25.70, 2009),1650 free (18:47.76, 2010) and the 400 IM (4:56.22). She just completed a post graduate fellowship in Emergency Medicine at the Mayo Clinic.
Why did you choose Goucher College?: I was looking for a smaller Division III school with a strong science department. I was fortunate to get to experience Goucher as a recruit for the swim team in November of my senior year of college. Not only was the team a great fit, but academically I felt that Goucher would be able to launch my future career
How did Goucher College prepare you for the real world?: The smaller size of Goucher allowed for a much more personal educational experience. I feel like I would have been eaten alive at a larger university, however at Goucher I was able to find my strengths and thrive. Not only was I able to study biology, but with a liberal arts degree I was exposed to many other courses that I would not have chosen to take. Being forced to take different educational requirements helped me to become more well-rounded as a student
How did being a student-athlete help shape you into the person you are today?: Being a student athlete at a Division III program you are a student first and athlete second. When I first started swimming at Goucher, I wasn't one of the faster swimmers. I soon learned hard work pays off, with very tangible results. I feel this is a work ethic that I still hold to this day
What was your most memorable experience at Goucher athletically?: I have so many wonderful memories from my time on the women's swimming team. It's so special to compete as an NCAA athlete. One of my all time favorite moments was when I broke the 500 freestyle record my junior year. Thinking about that moment after finishing my race and looking up at the clock to see my time still makes me smile. This experience was even more special because I finished second in the conference too.
What was your most non-athletic memorable experience at Goucher?: Maybe because it's during an election, but my sophomore year I remember when Barack Obama won as President Elect. I remember running down to the quad where the whole on campus community had gathered to celebrate and cheer.
What advice would you give current college students interested in pursuing a career in your field?: Science is hard. It's one of the more time consuming majors. It takes a lot of grit, sacrifice and hard work, but it will be worth it. I feel that Goucher prepared me exceptionally well to be able to think critically and work hard.
Looking back at your time at the Goucher, what advice would you give to current Goucher students or someone looking to come to the Goucher?: Follow your interests both academic and extra-curricular. Goucher has a lot of great opportunities to get involved and participate. If you're enjoying your time and following your interests, putting in the hard work won't feel as bad.
Give an update on what you have been up to since graduating from the Goucher College: Since graduating from Goucher in 2011, I have still been in school (LOL). I graduated in my Master's degree in nutritional sciences from Rutgers University in 2015 and then went on to pursue a second masters to become a Physician Assistant at Temple University. I just completed a post graduate fellowship in Emergency Medicine at the Mayo Clinic.
