Ella Robinson 8th in 100 Breaststroke, Gophers Continue at Landmark Championships
BOYDS, Md. - First year Ella Robinson (Canajoharie, N.Y./Canajoharie) placed eighth in the women's 100 yard breaststroke final to pace six Goucher College swimmers who qualified for finals on day two of the 2022 Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at Germantown Aquatic Center.
The Goucher men's team sits sixth with 86 points, while the Gopher women moved up one spot to No. 7 with 86 points as well.
Robinson qualified for the main final in the 100 after a time of 1:10.07 in the preliminaries, qualifying by 0.41 seconds. In the final she posted a time of 1:09.95. Her time is the second-fastest in program history, just 0.46 seconds off the program record of 1:09.49 set by Kim Raley in 1992.
Alejandra Barry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn./Amity) placed fifth in the B final and 13th overall in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 1:03.30. In the preliminary she swam a personal-best 1:03.01.
Reaching the B final in the 100 backstroke was Darcy McFarland (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) who posted a time of 1:04.69.
Robinson, McFarland, Olivia Reichardt (Monument, Colo./Palmer) and Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind./Owen Valley) finished seventh in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.93.
The women's 800 medley relay team of Reichardt, Barry-Ruiz, Jamie Damm (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and Avery McEachern (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) posted a time of 9:10.27 to place seventh.
For the men, Liam McDonald (Cary, N.C./St. Francis) qualified for the B final in the 100 butterfly and posted a time of 1:14.81 in the final. In the prelims he swam a personal-best 1:14.58.
Also qualifying for his B final was Jackson Penner (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:53.02 in the final. Sean Swanson (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) registered a time of 1:20.43 in the 100 breaststroke men's B final.
McDonald, Penner, Swanson and Richie Bialik (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) picked up points in a pair of relay events. They placed fourth in the 200 medley relay with a mark of 2:00.61, while in the 400 medley relay they were sixth with a 4:30.85 effort.
Goucher competes in the third and final day of the Landmark Championships on Sunday, with prelims beginning at 10 am and finals at 5 pm.
