Women's Swimming Splits at Etown, McFarland Wins 50 Butterfly
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Goucher College men's and women's swim teams competed in a tri-meet with Elizabethtown College and Immaculata University at Etown's Alumni Pool on Saturday. The Gopher women split on the day, defeating Immaculata 152-98 while falling to the Blue Jays 192-64.
The Goucher men fell to IU (106-61) and Etown (209-27).
For the women, junior Darcy McFarland (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) was victorious in the 50 yard butterfly, coming in first with a time of 29.64 seconds.
Senior Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind./Owen Valley) placed second in the 50 backstroke with a mark of 31.20 seconds, while she also placed third in the 50 freestyle, coming in in 27.85 seconds. Sophomore Ella Robinson (Canajoharie, N.Y./Canajoharie) was second in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:15.61.
Senior Alejandra Barry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn./Amity) checked in in third in the 100 fly at 1:12.02, while sophomore Avery McEachern (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) placed third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:20.10.
The women's 200 medley relay consisting of McFarland, Robinson, Barry-Ruiz and Wood placed second with a time of 2:02.63. In the 200 freestyle relay, McEachern, McFarland, Alana Moore (Bronx, N.Y./Frank McCourt) and Annalia Rivera (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) were second with a time of 1:56.52.
For the men, Ben Graff (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.38. He was also fourth in the 100 fly with a 58.40-second effort.
Goucher is idle until Saturday, November 12, when it hosts Catholic at 1 pm at the von Borries Aquatic Center.
