Gophers Sweep Moravian, Fall to Susquehanna
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Goucher College swimming teams returned to the pool Saturday at a tri-meet hosted by Moravian University that also featured Susquehanna University. The Gophers swept the Greyhounds, with the men winning 82-60 and the women prevailing 89-62.
The River Hawks defeated the Gophers 124-58 on the men's side and 124-59 for the women.
Goucher recorded three first place finishes on the afternoon. For the men, Ben Graff (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) won in the mixed 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:07.03. On the women's side, Alejandra Barry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn./Amity) took first in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 1:08.99, while Ella Robinson (Canajoharie, N.Y./Canajoharie) placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:12.68 effort.
Robinson also placed second in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:24.30. Barry-Ruiz finished third in the 200 freestyle, coming in with a time of 2:30.49.
The women's 400 medley relay team of Robinson, Barry-Ruiz, Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind./Owen Valley) and Olivia Reichardt (Monument, Colo./Palmer) took second, posting a mark of 4:26.93.
Reichardt placed third in the 100 butterfly, checking in at 1:10.10. Avery McEachern (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) finished third in the 500 freestyle, recording a time of 6:23.19.
For the men, Graff posted two other top three finishes, coming in second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.13) and third in the 200 IM (2:21.97).
Richie Bialik (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) took third in the 100 butterfly (1:07.30) and the 200 freestyle (2:02.68). Christian Houck (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) placed third in the 100 freestyle (1:10.33).
Goucher is back in action next Saturday, January 21, when it travels to Drew for a 1 pm meet. The Gophers return home Saturday, January 28, hosting Gallaudet at 1 pm at von Borries Aquatic Center.
