Robinson Breaks 100 Breaststroke Record...Twice, Finishes Fourth in A Final
BALTIMORE - Junior Ella Robinson of the Goucher College women's swimming team broke a 32 year-old school record in the 100-yard breaststroke twice on Saturday and posted a fourth-place finish in the A final at the 2024 Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Loyola University Maryland's Mangione Aquatic Center on Saturday.
The Gopher women sit in seventh place in the team standings with 113 points. Goucher's men are also seventh, having compiled 75 points.
Robinson placed fifth in the preliminaries early Saturday afternoon with a time of 1:08.80, breaking the school record of 1:09.49 set by Kim Raley in 1992. In the final, Robinson went lower, swimming a 1:08.27 to place fourth, just 0.24 seconds behind bronze medalist Alanna Kelly of Scranton. Bella Mungo of Catholic won the event with a time of 1:05.70.
In the men's B final for the 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Ben Graff placed 15th overall with a time of 58.64 seconds. Jack Buckley was 16th in the B final in the men's 200 freestyle, checking in at 2:36.02.
For the women's 100 butterfly, Kan Jarvis and Darcy McFarland were the first two narrowly missing the B final, with Jarvis swimming 1:06.02 and McFarland 1:06.40. McFarland also missed the B final in the 100 backstroke by 0.21 seconds, swimming a time of 1:04.87.
The women's 200 freestyle relay of Alana Moore, McFarland, Jarvis and Robinson was eighth with a time of 1:49.15. The men's 200 free relay placed seventh made up of Graff, James Piland, Buckley and Noah Moudarres.
The Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships wrap up Sunday at the Mangione Aquatic Center, with prelims at 10 am and finals set for 5 pm.
