Alston-Buck, Gladney, Hinton-Ayodele Better Own School Records at LVC Invitational
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Goucher College men's indoor track and field senior Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md.) and women's track and field freshmen Kiri Alston-Buck (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) and Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) each bettered their own school records as the Gophers competed at the Lebanon Valley Invitational Friday evening.
Gladney bettered his own program record in the shot put with a toss of 12.49 meters to take third overall. He set the record with a 12.30-meter effort in the season opening DuCharme Invitational on December 4.
Alston-Buck improved upon her school record in the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters to take first overall. After clearing 1.52, Alston-Buck had solid attempts at 1.57 but was unable to clear the bar.
Hinton-Ayodele was first in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 11.66 meters for a school record after fouling on their first three attempts. Hinton-Ayodele's attempt places them No. 7 in the country currently.
In the women's 55-meter dash, Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern) overcame a slow start in the final and took first with a time of 7.74 seconds. In the prelims she ran a season-best 7.70 second effort. Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles) was third in the 55-meter final with a time of 8 seconds flat.
Alston-Buck placed second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.64 seconds with a cleaner trip than in the season opener. The 4x400-meter relay team of Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md./Mount de Sales), Tee Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll), Juaniece Blackmon (Norfolk, Va./Portsmouth) and Alston-Buck ran a time of 4:58.46 to take first.
Bakare placed third in the 400 with a time of 1:05.93.
For the men, Sean Whitfield (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) was first in the 800 with a time of 2:09.35. After leading the first two laps, Whitfield was overtaken on the third lap but waited and retook the lead on the first turn of the final lap to win by 1.4 seconds.
Mustafa Honeyblue (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) took third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.77 seconds, bettering his time by 0.24 seconds from the season opener.
Goucher returns to action on Saturday, January 22 when the Gophers compete at the Alvernia Winter Invitational.
