Gophers Post Six Top 10s at Alvernia Winter Invitational
READING, Pa. - The Goucher College men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first large meet of the season at Alvernia's Winter Invitational and came away with six combined top-10 finishes.
Sophomore Tee Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) placed fifth in the women's 60-meter final with a time of 8.18 seconds. Bakare was the eighth and final qualifier for the final after posting an 8.256 in the prelims, just 0.002 seconds ahead of ninth place.
Bakare also finished seventh in the 200 with a time of 27.61 seconds (5th among Division III competitors), the No. 5 mark in the Landmark Conference to date.
Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) recorded a fourth-place finish (2nd among Division III competitors) in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.18 meters. The mark is good for second in the Landmark Conference thus far this season.
Kiri Alston-Buck (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) was tied for 8th in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters.
Sophie O'Connor (Shorewood, Wisc./Shorewood) debuted in the women's 800 with a time of 2:47.22. Reese Finnigan (Dallas, Texas/Grapevine) recorded a 2:59.71. Finnigan did not compete indoors in high school.
Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md./Mount de Sales) set personal bests in the women's 200 (29.12) and 400 (1:05.44). Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern) posted a time of 8.49 seconds in the women's 60 prelims and a 29.10 in the 200 meters.
Jordan Dumas (Elkridge, Md./Oakland Mills) posted a personal best in the women's triple jump (9.63 meters).
On the men's side, Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.44 meters, just 0.05 meters off his program record set last week.
Ayo Ajiborode (Parkville, Md./Parkville) placed 10th overall in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.31 seconds, missing the final by just 0.02 seconds.
Goucher returns to action next Friday and Saturday, competing in the Eastern Shore Invitational at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
