Carter Hinton-Ayodele Wins Gold Twice at Landmark Indoor Championships
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - First year Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) of the Goucher College women's track and field team took first place in both the triple jump and long jump at the 2022 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday. Hinton-Ayodele was named the Landmark Female Rookie of the Year and the Field Athlete of the Year.
As a team, the Gopher women finished sixth with 46 points, while the Goucher men also placed sixth.
Competing in the long jump first, Hinton-Ayodele bettered their own school record with a 5.33 meter jump on the third jump of the morning.
In the triple jump, Hinton-Ayodele unleashed a mark of 11.84 meters on the second jump after fouling their first attempt. That mark, in addition to bettering Hinton-Ayodele's own program record, broke the Landmark Conference indoor championship record that was set in 2013. The mark also currently stands as the No. 8 jump in Division III this season.
The Gopher women posted three other top three finishes.
Sophomore Tee Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) placed second in the 60-meter dash final with a personal-best time of 8.01 seconds. She also placed third in the 200 with a time of 26.89 seconds.
Sophomore Kya Taylor (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) recorded a personal-best toss of 10.87 meters in the shot put to place third overall after entering the championship ranked No. 10 in the conference.
The women's 4x200 relay team of Bakare, Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern), Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md./Mount de Sales) and Kiri Alston-Buck (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) placed fourth and was just 0.01 seconds off the podium with a season-best 1:51.04. The top four relay squads were separated by just 0.72 seconds.
Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles) qualified for the triple jump final and finished seventh with a mark of 9.99 meters.
Alston-Buck qualified for the final in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.15 seconds and placed sixth in the final with a 10.31.
Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) placed seventh in the high jump with a 1.47-meter effort.
Kistner posted a personal-best time of 1:04.50 to place ninth overall. Reese Finnigan (Dallas, Texas/Gravevine) registered a personal-best 21:53.87 in the 5K.
For the men, Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) finished third in the shot put with a program-record 12.62-meter toss.
Sean Whitfield (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) ran a personal-best and placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 52.83 seconds.
