Gopher Women Second at Outdoor Season Opener, Men Fourth
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College track and field teams opened the outdoor portion of their seasons Friday as the Gophers hosted the Inter-Conference Meet at Gopher Stadium. The Gopher women placed second in the six-team field with 100 points, while the men finished fourth out of five with 37 points.
Goucher's women's squad posted a trio of first place finishes on the afternoon. Kiri Alston-Buck (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) was first in the high jump with a 1.50 meter leap. Teammate Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) was second, checking in at 1.45 meters. Alston-Buck was also second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.75 seconds.
Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.74 seconds. The Gopher 4x400 relay team of Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md./Mount de Sales), Alston-Buck, Juaniece Blackmon (Norfolk, Va./Portsmouth) and Sophie O'Connor (Shorewood, Wisc./Shorewood) took home first with a time of 4:40.79.
Kya Taylor (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) placed second in both the discus (28.00 meters) and in the shot put (10.72 meters).
Kistner and O'Connor went 2-3 in the 800, with Kistner clocking in at 2:43.89 and O'Connor at 2:45.79. Kistner also placed third in the 400 with a 1:03.76 effort. Reese Finnigan (Dallas, Texas/Grapevine) placed third in the 5K with a time of 22:14.26.
For the men, Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) posted second place finishes in both the javelin (40.11 meters) and the shot put (12.52 meters). He also recorded a fourth place in the discus with a toss of 33.43 meters.
Sean Whitfield (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) was third in the 1500 with a time of 4:47.53. Mustafa Honeyblue (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) posted a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.34 seconds).
The Goucher track and field teams return to action April 1-2 at the Towson Tiger Invitational.
