Gophers Finish Up at Towson Tiger Invitational
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up the Towson Tiger Invitational at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday.
For the Gopher women, Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) posted a personal-best 1:02.41 in the 400-meter dash. Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md./Mount de Sales) bettered her time in the event by 0.26 seconds from last week with a 1:03.50.
The women's 4x100 relay squad consisting of Bakare, Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles), Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern) and Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) placed eighth with a time of 50.79 seconds. The mark was Goucher's fastest in the event since 2016.
Kistner also led the Gophers in the 200 with a time of 28.18 seconds. Ruiz recorded a mark of 28.55 seconds.
Kiri Alston-Buck (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) posted a wind-aided season-best of 16.44 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, improving upon last week's time by 0.31 seconds. Alston-Buck also matched her 1.50-meter mark from last week in the high jump.
Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) improved in both the high jump, matching Alston-Buck with a 1.50 meter leap, while bettering her season-opening mark in the long jump by 0.2 meters with a 4.82. Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) had a mark of 4.67 meters.
Kya Taylor (Dinwiddie, Va,/Dinwiddie) recorded a 26.53-meter toss in the discus throw.
For the men, Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) recorded marks of 35.95 meters in the javelin and 33.93 meters in the discus. His discus toss bettered his season-opening mark by 0.50 meters.
Mustafa Honeyblue (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) recorded a time of 52.24 seconds, with Sean Whitfield (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) improved by 0.39 seconds to post a 52.63.
Whitfield also ran a 24.25 in the 200.
Goucher is slated to compete at the Gallaudet Invitational on Saturday, April 9.
