Women's 4x100 Victorious At Gallaudet Invitational
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The women's 4x100 relay team posted a time of 50.36 seconds to take first place highlighting the Goucher College track and field teams' trip to the Gallaudet Invitational on Saturday.
The women finished fourth out of eight scoring teams with 60 points. The Gopher men were seventh with 18 points.
The relay squad of Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles), Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll), Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern) and Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) improved upon their time of 50.79 set last week. The mark is currently third-fastest in the Landmark Conference.
Both Bakare and Ruiz qualified for the 100-meter dash final. Bakare placed third with a time of 12.88 seconds, while Ruiz was seventh at 13.58 seconds. Ruiz ran a 13.48 in her heat, while Bakare ran a 12.88 in her heat as well.
Bakare placed second in the 200 with a time of 26.29 seconds.
Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md./Mount de Sales) finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:35.82.
In the field events, Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) took second in both the long jump (5.17 meters) and the triple jump (11.03 meters). Hinton-Ayodele's triple jump mark is currently No. 2 in the conference.
Jordan Dumas (Elkridge, Md./Oakland Mills) was fourth in the triple jump (10.19 meters) while Gabriel placed fifth at 10.14 meters.
Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) finished second in the high jump (1.48 meters). She was also fifth in the long jump (4.81 meters).
Lydia Bailey (Salisbury, Md./Wicomico) finished fifth in the javelin (20.93 meters).
For the men, Mustafa Honeyblue (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) qualified for the 100-meter dash final and placed fifth with a time off 11.25 seconds. He also finished fifth in the 200 (23.04).
Sean Whitfield (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha) was second in the 800 with a time of 2:08.59.
Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) took third in the discus with a throw of 37.27 meters.
Goucher hosts its second and final home meet of the season Friday, April 15 when the Blue and Gold Classic takes place at Gopher Stadium.
