Hinton-Ayodele Third in Women's Long Jump at Landmark Championships on Day One
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - First year Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) of the Goucher College women's track and field team recorded a third-place finish in the women's long jump to lead the Gophers on day one of the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Juniata College on Saturday.
Kya Taylor (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) recorded a season-best discus throw of 28.83 meters to place 12th.
Hinton-Ayodele recorded a jump of 5.05 meters to place behind the Susquehanna duo of Remi Acord (5.39) and Hannah Alderfer (5.30). Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) was seventh with a mark of 4.66 meters.
The Gophers placed two runners in Sunday's women's 100-meter dash final. Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) qualified fourth with a time of 13.04 seconds, while Neli La Court Ruiz (York, Pa./Northeastern) qualified seven with a mark of 13.46 seconds. Bakare also qualified for the 200-meter final in fifth with a time of 26.81 seconds.
For the men, sophomore Mustafa Honeyblue (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) qualified for Sunday's 200-meter dash final with a time of 22.99 seconds, good for fifth.
Joel Gladney (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) finished seventh in the men's discus with a throw of 38.02 meters.
Kiri Alston-Buck (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) narrowly missed qualifying for the women's 100-meter hurdle final, coming in ninth with a time of 18.14 seconds. Sophie O'Connor (Shorewood, Wisc./Shorewood) recorded a personal best in the women's 1500 with a 5:33.49 effort.
In the women's discus, Kya Taylor (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) recorded a season-best throw of 28.83 meters to place 12th.
The second and final day of the 2022 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships kicks off at 11 am on Sunday.
