Goucher Claims ECAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Title
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Goucher College women's outdoor track and field team took home four first place finishes as it claimed the 2022 ECAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship Thursday at Southern Connecticut State University. The Gophers, in their first year as an ECAC member, compiled 108 points to outdistance New Jersey City University (77) and Rutgers-Camden (71).
Sophomore Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) took first in both the 100 (12.70) and 200 (26.65) meter dashes. She was also a member of the 4x100 relay team that took first place with a 50.05-second effort, along with Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles), Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md./Mount de Sales).
Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) took home first in the long jump with a personal-best 5.44-meter jump. Hinton-Ayodele placed third, checking in at 5.10 meters.
Kiri Alston-Buck (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) took home a pair of second place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (16:35) and the high jump (1.50 meters). Cheney was fourth in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.45 meters.
Gabriel placed third in the 100 with a personal-best time of 13.30 seconds.
Kistner came in second in the 400 with a time of 1:05.24 and third in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:09.73 effort.
Kya Taylor (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) was sixth in the discus with a throw of 27.99 meters. She also had a shot put toss of 8.96 meters.
Hinton-Ayodele will close out the season for the Gophers next weekend at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Hinton-Ayodele currently has the No. 12 mark nationally in the triple jump (12.01 meters) and is expected to compete next Saturday, May 28.
