Thornton-Fillyaw Sets Two School Records at Cardinal Track and Field Classic
LANDOVER, Md. - Goucher College women's track and field first year Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center) set two more school records as the Gopher men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic hosted by Catholic University at the PG Sports and Learning Complex on Saturday.
Thornton-Fillyaw, who earlier this year set program records in both the 600 and 1000, broke school marks in the 800 and 1600 on Saturday. In the 800 she ran a 2:25.45 to place fourth, while in the 1600 she ran a time of 5:32.03 to place seventh and third among Division III athletes. Her 800 time is the second-fastest in the Landmark Conference this season.
Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) took first place in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.02 meters, while taking fourth in the high jump, checking in at 1.52 meters. Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) took first in the triple jump for the second straight week, posting a 10.99 meter mark.
Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) was one of two Division III runners in the women's 60-meter final, coming in seventh at 8.22 seconds. Bakare was also eighth in the 200 with a time of 27.48 seconds.
The women's 4x400 relay of Bakare, Thornton-Fillyaw, Precious Enow (Elkridge, Md./Oakland Mills) and Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles) came in second with a time of 4:20.60.
For the men, first year Deonte Lewis (Fort Washington, Md./Crossland) took fifth place in both the 60-meter final (7.277) and 200-meter dash (23.96 seconds). He edged Mustafa Honeyblue (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) by 0.003 in the 60 final as Honeyblue came in at 7.280.
Zyad Yousof (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) came in seventh out of 24 in the men's 800, clocking a time of 2:10.45.
Goucher is off until Saturday, February 4 when it competes in Ursinus' Frank Colden Invitational.
