Women's Track and Field Ranked No. 7 in Mid-Atlantic Region

NEW ORLEANS - The Goucher College women's indoor track and field team is ranked No. 7 in the initial USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Ranking Index released earlier this week. The Gophers are the third-highest Landmark Conference program in the Mid-Atlantic rankings, with Susquehanna checking in at No. 3 and Scranton at No. 5. Elizabethtown also appears in the rankings at No. 15, while Catholic is No. 12 in the South region rankings.
Goucher has recorded six performances that rank in the top-10 of the region. Junior Dorian Cheney (Bryans Road, Md./North Point) has two of those six marks, with her top high jump mark of 1.57 meters ranking fifth in the region, while her long jump top performance of 5.25 meters is No. 9 in the region. First year Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center) owns the No. 2 performance in the 800 meters, running a 2:23.80 earlier this season.
Sophomore Carter Hinton-Ayodele (Bowie, Md./Bowie) has the region's No. 3 triple jump mark with a hop, skip and jump of 11.39 meters. Junior Tahira Bakare (Silver Spring, Md./Archbishop Carroll) is 10th in the region in the 200 with a time of 27.06 seconds, while junior Jaelan Gabriel (Houston, Texas/Dulles) is No. 10 in the pentathlon with 1,968 points.
Goucher track and field returns to action next Saturday, February 4, traveling to the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus.
